Take an Elevator Ride through 500 Years of the NYC Skyline at the One World Trade Center

This is quite possibly the coolest elevator ride ever (with the exception of the Glass Elevator ride in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). The elevator walls of New York City’s One World Trade Center feature a timelapse simulation that compresses 500 years of the city skyline into about one minute – or the time it takes to ride from the ground to the 102nd floor.

The computer-generated images include a glimpse of the former World Trade Center’s south tower before it was destroyed on September 11, 2001, as well as the construction of the One World Trade Center. Any timelapse would make a nice addition to an elevator ride and this timelapse would be worth watching even if you weren’t on your way up the tallest building in the US. It’s fascinating to see how the New York City skyline came to be.

The One World Trade Center observatory will open to the public on May 29, 2015.
