‘Awake’: An Electric Timelapse of the Northern Lights Dancing Across the Alaskan Night Sky [VIDEO]

Spending four nights outside, in the dead of an Alaskan winter, sounds absolutely brutal. So we should thank filmmaker Alexis Coram for putting himself through that to capture stunning footage of the northern lights.

Coram created this mesmerizing timelapse of the northern lights energetically dancing across the night sky in Fairbanks, Alaska, in February. The video, “Awake,” features vibrant footage of the aurora borealis flashing its neon greens, blues, pinks, purples and yellows. The colors are so clear and stunning, you’ll think you were witnessing the lights in person.

On the video’s Vimeo page, Coram recognizes that many people aren’t able to witness wondrous sights like the northern lights in person. He hopes to share his experiences and transport us there. He writes:

I decided to do that winter trip to Alaska again this year so that I could share more Aurora Borealis magic… I stood outside for hours – shooting and gazing in awe at the orchestral dance above and around me. I felt more awake than ever during those moments.
