An Honest Trailer for ‘The Desolation of Smaug,’ the Second Film in ‘The Hobbit’ Trilogy

Can’t get enough of The Hobbit? In honor of the theatrical release of the final installment of the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Screen Junkies created an honest movie trailer for the second movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The humorous honest trailer asks what all of us die-hard fans are thinking. How did a children’s book get turned into so many movies? And why didn’t director Peter Jackson quit while he was ahead? Screen Junkies’s pitch for the movie goes like this: “Rejoin Middle Earth’s other, shorter fellowship, as they continue their journey…to retrieve yet another piece of jewelry that corrupts those who seek it.”

This trailer notes that, in this movie, the characters, many of whom you’ve already met in the Lord Of The Rings, move from one unimportant setting to the next, get captured by just about all their enemies and some of their friends, and extend the tiniest sections of text from the novel into hours of movie filler.
