A Surprisingly Seamless Mashup of Six Nearly Identical Pop Country Hits [VIDEO]
“Once upon a time, six nearly identical hit country songs were separated at birth…” This is the opening line of a new song mashup from YouTube song-mixer Gregory “Sir Mashalot” Todd. It soon becomes evident how fitting those words are.
Sir Mashalot combines six surprisingly similar Pop-Country hits into one astonishingly seamless mashup song. The original tracks are “Sure Be Cool If You Did” by Blake Shelton, Parmalee’s “Close Your Eyes,” “This is How We Roll” by Florida Georgia Line, “Ready, Set, Roll” by Chase Rice, Cole Swindell’s “Chillin’ It,” and “Drunk on You” by Luke Bryan.
Although the mashup shows how easy it is for artists in the same genre to create formulaic songs, Sir Mashalot explains on YouTube that his intention is not to insult any songwriter or singer:
I just want to be clear that this mashup was made in good fun. I am not attempting to bash these songs, the artists, or country music in general. I am an aspiring songwriter myself, and I understand and appreciate why the ‘formula’ continues to dominate the airwaves – not only in country music, but in pop and other genres as well. I simply enjoy mixing… and when I heard the striking similarities of these particular hits, I thought it would be fun to throw them all in a mix and see what I could come up with.
Listen to the mashup to see how well these songs blend together!
