Tokyo Layers: 7 Vertical Cityscapes at Night

Japanese artist and photographer Sasaki Makota is out with a stunning set of Tokyo photos. Makota takes long-exposure photographs of skyscrapers while vertically moving up and down glass elevators. “You will be able to sense that we are living in the flow of time,” he said about the Tokyo Layers series. The photos represent, in some sense, every human life, which forms “by the accumulation of time” in an ” unbroken line.”

Makota’s work has been shown in Japan, China, Germany, and elsewhere.
