Twinkle, Twinkle: Awe-Inspiring Starry Night Skies, as Seen by a Self-Taught Astrophotographer [PHOTOS]

Most of us don’t have the chance to witness the jaw-dropping beauty of a starry night sky unaffected by light pollution. But 32-year-old self-taught fine art photographer Mikko Lagerstedt witnesses these breathtaking scenes frequently. Living in Finland, he takes advantage of his location and talents to capture some truly magnificent astrophotography.

Lagerstedt tells Instagram:

Even if I end up with no photographs I’m satisfied with, at least I have spent time in nature and outside in the fresh air. The weather, timing and lunar phases make it difficult to predict a good astrophotography day — that gives it a challenging twist. There is a sense of mystery every time I take a long-exposure, and you can’t know how the picture will turn out. It is one of the key things that inspires me to capture night photographs.

Studying design, Lagerstedt realized only a year before graduation that photography was his calling. He saved up enough money to buy his first camera upon graduation and since then has honed his skills, capturing the wondrous sky scenes featured below and more!
