Negative Space: Artist Uses the Sky To Create Illustrations that Dwell Between City Buildings
You might have seen shapes in the clouds, but French illustrator and artist Thomas Lamadieu sees whole worlds up there.
Lamadieu travels the world photographing the view from city streets looking up. He then uses the sky between the buildings as his canvas.
In several series, Lamadieu has drawn somewhat comical characters who dwell in that bright blue negative space. “Sky Art,” “Sky Design,” and “Sky Face” all feature these characters, living in the gaps between roofs and skyscraper walls. To capture his canvases, Lamadieu has traveled to Spain, France, Germany, South Korea, Canada and the United States.
