Shelter Dogs and Their Famous Author Doppelgangers [PHOTOS]
Identifying your celebrity doppelganger, that famous person who you resemble, has become a pretty popular pastime. Many of us have even gone so far as to pair our canine companions with human doppelgangers. But who knew it could be successfully done. Italy-based photographer Dan Bannino matches shelter dogs with human lookalikes, juxtaposing them to famous authors in his series “Poetic Dogs.”
Just like writing gives voice to authors, Bannino hopes to use these literary doppelgangers to give voice to rescue dogs who are looking to find forever homes. In Bannino’s images, the dogs oddly and accurately resemble their author counterparts, making the photos even more endearing.
On the collection’s page on his website, Bannino writes of the dogs he’s photographed:
[T]hrough their expressions, sounds and movements, they’re telling you everything…just like an author would do with words in a fine poem. Almost a year ago I rescued from a shelter my buddy Rothko, he was in very poor state… After his adoption, I realized how many dogs are in the same condition all around the world. His story is just one of a millions, so I’ve decided to create this series, giving voice to Rothko and all his four legged friends.
To aid these canines in need, Bannino has launched an Indiegogo campaign so he can continue visiting shelters, provide medical and other supplies, and share these dogs’ stories with the world.
