The Seattle Seahawks’ Journey to Super Bowl XLIX, as Told by the Team’s Photographer

The Seattle Seahawks went into the 2015 Super Bowl as defending champions, hoping to win back-to-back years. Unfortunately for the team and their city, they came up short. But the journey to the big game was an arduous and exciting one, with each step along the way captured by a veteran photographer.

Official team photographer for the past 24 seasons, Rod Mar documented the Seahawks this season, from the beginning to its oh-so-close end: the warm-ups, the stretches, the locker rooms, the kickoffs and games, the wins and losses.

Mar’s photographs not only tell the incredible story of defending champions working hard to bring their city glory, but also try to humanize the players who often seem like distant heroes to us. He tells Instagram:

When you look at football players they almost look robotic in their pads, helmets, gloves and high tech cleats. So when you can peel that back and show that these are men chasing their passion, fulfilling their dreams, and making a living in the most competitive of atmospheres, then as a photographer you want to find the parts that make them human.”
