The Action of Kayaking and Conoeing Captured By Colorful LED Light Bouncing Across the Water

Can you guess which of these light patterns are from kayaking and which are from canoeing? It’s difficult to tell them apart, but if you look closely, you can see that kayakers arch more as they paddle while the canoers twist.

Intrigued by these different movements, Ontario-based photographer Stephen Orlando attached LED lights to paddles and paddlers to track the motion of their boats. In developing the photos, Orlando then removed the boats, paddles, kayaker and canoers leaving only the glow from the lights to bounce across the water. The resulting photographs are fascinating, as you still imagine the kayaks and canoes moving, but you visually replace the subjects with colorful light patterns.
