An Optical Illusion of Winter: Wind-Swept Frost on Tree Trunks in Czech Forest [PHOTO]
While winter is not everyone’s favorite season, the cold does bring with it some stunning natural sights. For instance, this recent image captured by photographer Jan Bainar while hiking through the Beskydy Mountains between Slovakia and Czech Republic. As she was trekking through the mountain forest, Bainar came upon an odd and wondrous sight: forest trees baring wind-swept frost in the most peculiar pattern. Because of the combination of low temperatures, high winds and some precipitation, the frost formed on only one side of the trees. It climbs the trunks and spreads outward from the middle taking on the appearance of horses’s manes.
